The Story Behind the Art
Olena Osinska (Mirenkova) is a contemporary artist based in Florida, USA. Her work reinterprets traditional Ukrainian motifs through a modern perspective, exploring texture, rhythm, and symbolism.
Deeply inspired by the heritage of Ukrainian embroidery — an ancient women’s art passed down through generations as a symbol of protection, memory, and identity — Osinska transforms these cultural codes into contemporary abstract forms. A profound source of inspiration is a collection of heirloom towels embroidered by her grandmother and passed down to her. This collection has become a deep emotional and spiritual foundation of her work.
Olena received her formal art education in Lviv, graduating from both an art college and the Academy of Arts. It was there she developed her sensitivity to composition, color, and material — qualities that now define her signature style.
Originally from Ukraine, she worked as a graphic designer until the war forced her to leave her homeland with her two children. Now, from her new home in Florida, she has returned to her artistic roots — fulfilling a lifelong dream of creating fine art that reflects her identity and shares the resilience and beauty of Ukrainian culture with the world.
She works with natural linen canvas, handmade paper, and wooden panels, blending painting with expressive relief techniques. Her art moves between minimalism and layered complexity, between tradition and innovation — inviting viewers into a tactile and emotional dialogue between past and present.
